Ascendant Energy of Rockland Awarded $575,408 from Maine Technology Asset Fund

Governor Baldacci shook hands with Christopher Straka, CEO of Ascendant Energy Company, Inc., on Tuesday afternoon in Augusta after the official announcement of the 16 recipients of the Technology Asset Fund Awards from the Maine Technology Institute (MTI).

Ascendant was awarded $575,408 toward the creation of an advanced photovoltaic production facility to be developed in Rockland. According to MTI, that $575,408 will be matched with $3,877,500 in additional private and public financing.

The 16 awards covered projects that are located from Portland to Presque Isle to Bar Harbor and are intended to help to develop technologies that build on traditional Maine industries in aquaculture, forestry and agriculture, as well as genetics, nanotechnology, global positioning, high-resolution imaging, and ceramics and composites.

"These projects will leverage another $40 million investment into the Maine innovation economy," Governor Baldacci said.
